The Art Of The Blow Dry

How is it you never really look as polished as you do when you leave the salon? Is there magic to achieving the perfect blow dry or is it possible to do it yourself? There is. As long as use the correct styling tools and follow some simple techniques. Always blow the hair in the direction it grows from roots to ends, the reverse will cause fizzy dull hair. Selecting the best brush style and size for your type of hair.

Never place the dryer barrel or nozzle directly on the hair as this will cause burning spots and will NOT have any air flow to dry your hair.

  1. Start shampooing and conditioning with your favourite products.
  2. Remove excess water, blot hair don't rub, this will cause frizz.
  3. Select and distribute your styling product from roots to ends determined by hair density.
  4. Pre dry hair to remove most of the water this is a good time to focus on the roots if you want volume by lifting them as you pre dry. When the hair is slightly damp you are now ready to style. (note if your hair is extremely curly you may want to start with wet hair).
  5. Divide your hair into sections holding the brush at a right angle, taking sections no wider than the width of the brush barrel.
  6. Always direct the brush and follow with the dryer to the ends, not straight out at a right angle, as you'll find this easier to handle the hair and will have less fatigue on your hands and arms.
